10 easy camping meals for beginners

Camp food doesn't have to be dull. These meals are easy, filling and need only one or two pans.

Breakfast

  1. Porridge with toppings: oats, milk powder, honey and dried fruit.
  2. Breakfast wraps: scrambled eggs, cheese and pre-cooked bacon in a tortilla.
  3. Pancakes: mix the dry ingredients at home in a bottle and just add water.

Lunch

  1. Loaded pittas: hummus, cheese and salad. No cooking needed.
  2. Soup and crusty bread: heat a carton of soup on the stove.

Dinner

  1. One-pot pasta: pasta, a jar of sauce and some chorizo or beans.
  2. Chilli: pre-make it at home and freeze it; it keeps the cool box cold on day one.
  3. Foil-packet veg: potatoes, peppers and onions cooked in foil over embers (where fires are allowed).
  4. Quick noodle stir fry: instant noodles, frozen veg and soy sauce.

Treat

  1. Banana boats: slit a banana, add chocolate, wrap in foil and warm through.

Food safety

Keep raw meat cold and separate, wash hands before cooking, and store food sealed so it doesn't attract animals.
